The song I’m introducing today is one that’s been around for nearly 15 years, yet even now, the moment its piano intro begins, it still tugs at something deep inside your heart. Among the many hit songs that come to mind when you think of Davichi, this one holds a particularly special place.
Before this track was released, Davichi was widely loved for their powerful, upbeat hits like “8282 (팔팔이)” and “Time, Please Stop (시간아 멈춰라).” But the massive success of this song completely redefined their image, firmly establishing them as a “trustworthy ballad duo” in the eyes of the public.
It’s also one of those songs that someone would always add to the karaoke queue when you went out with friends—a track that perfectly captured the clumsy, heartfelt emotions of young heartbreak. Today, let’s take a closer look at “Don’t Say Goodbye (안녕이라고 말하지마).”
In the summer of 2011, Davichi made their comeback with their third mini album Love Delight, breaking a hiatus of over a year. Despite an unfortunate incident where the song was leaked before its official release, it went on to dominate music charts almost instantly.
Up until then, Davichi had mainly been known for energetic dance tracks like “8282 (팔팔이)” and “Love and War (사랑과 전쟁).” But this single song changed everything—it marked the beginning of their transformation into true ballad queens.
This track was also their first collaboration with composer Jeon Hae-seong. Built on a medium-tempo arrangement layered with strings and piano, the song beautifully blends Lee Hae-ri’s powerful, emotional high notes with Kang Min-kyung’s warm and delicate tone. In live performances, since many of the high notes are originally sung by Lee Hae-ri, Kang Min-kyung often shares parts of those sections.
There are also some memorable behind-the-scenes moments. During a performance on M Countdown, so much confetti was used that it literally flew into the members’ mouths while they were singing. On Music Bank, Lee Hae-ri accidentally sang second-verse lyrics during the first verse—but Kang Min-kyung quickly adjusted by playfully altering her own lyrics to match, showing their incredible chemistry. And that very day, Davichi took first place.
Artist: Davichi (다비치)

Career Highlights: Debuted in 2008 with “Even Though I Hate You, I Love You (미워도 사랑하니까)”, won the Golden Disk Daesang, and achieved numerous No.1 wins on music shows

“Tonight, please don’t say those words—why did you leave me?
My heart hurts, it aches, and my tears are welling up”
In this moment, you can feel the desperate attempt to hold back overwhelming sadness upon sensing an impending breakup.
“Not yet—we can’t say goodbye
Don’t open your mouth any further
Don’t say goodbye to me”
These lines capture the heartbreaking denial of someone who can’t bear to hear the final, cruel confirmation of a breakup.
This is a medium-tempo track where the harmony of strings and piano stands out right from the intro. The rhythm isn’t overly slow, giving it a refined and polished feel, while Lee Hae-ri’s emotionally charged vocals and Kang Min-kyung’s delicate sensitivity add depth and richness to the song.
“Don’t Say Goodbye (안녕이라고 말하지마)” is a defining song that solidified Davichi’s identity as a ballad duo, marking a complete shift from their earlier dance-focused image. To this day, it remains an essential part of their concerts and live performances—an enduring signature song that fans continue to cherish.
