Today’s featured song is a heartbreaking ballad by TAEYANG, a member of the legendary K-pop group BIGBANG.
In this track, Taeyang steps away from flashy performances and fills the song with nothing but his voice and raw sincerity. It captures the desperate emotions of a man trying to hold onto the lingering warmth left behind after a cold breakup, leaving listeners with a deep and lasting impression.

"Eyes, Nose, Lips" was not originally planned as the title track. At first, Taeyang’s second album RISE was supposed to promote three co-title songs — “Beautiful,” “1AM,” and “Stay With Me.” But after “Eyes, Nose, Lips” was added later in the production process, everyone felt the song was simply too good not to stand alone as the main title track.
Interestingly, the album itself was also heavily reworked. It was initially planned to contain around twenty songs, but Taeyang decided to prioritize quality over quantity, reducing it to just nine tracks. Ironically, the song added near the end would go on to become one of the defining Korean songs of 2014.
And behind the song lies a very real love story.
During BIGBANG’s world tour era, Taeyang barely had time to stay in Korea. The distance eventually created cracks in his relationship with actress Min Hyo-rin, leading to their breakup. Taeyang poured those emotions directly into the lyrics, and that became “Eyes, Nose, Lips.”
But the timing feels almost cinematic.
While working on the song, Taeyang reunited with Min Hyo-rin. He reportedly played the finished song for her and told her, “This song contains the feelings I had for you back then,” and she loved it. A breakup song written for someone, later being handed to that same person after reconnecting — it almost sounds too dramatic to be real.
The music video also has an unforgettable backstory. Instead of relying on flashy visuals or choreography, the MV focused almost entirely on a long take of Taeyang singing alone. Then, near the end of the video, the woman appearing on the screen is revealed to be Min Hyo-rin herself. In a way, the real-life inspiration behind the breakup song became part of the music video.
G-Dragon later joked about witnessing the filming and revealed on TV that Taeyang was supposed to act sad, but “his smile was practically reaching his ears.” Even while singing a breakup song, he couldn’t hide the happiness of seeing her again.
After the song’s release, fans constantly speculated whether the lyrics were really about Min Hyo-rin. For a while, the couple remained careful and quiet about it. Eventually, Taeyang personally confirmed that the song was based on his real story.
The final chapter of this story came in 2018.
At Taeyang and Min Hyo-rin’s wedding, “Eyes, Nose, Lips” was performed as a wedding serenade. A song born from heartbreak ended up being sung at the wedding of the very couple whose breakup inspired it. In the end, one song came to contain their entire journey — heartbreak, longing, reunion, and marriage.

“Your eyes, nose, lips
The touch of your hands that used to hold me
Even your tiny fingernails
I can still feel you…”
“Our love burned away like a dying flame
It hurts so much
But now, I’ll call you a memory.”
The line about remembering not just someone’s eyes or voice, but even their “tiny fingernails,” is truly the emotional core of the song. It captures an incredibly delicate detail that only someone who has deeply loved another person could truly understand.
Through these lingering memories, the song conveys how someone can remain vividly present in your heart even after the relationship has ended.
“Eyes, Nose, Lips” is built around a soft piano-driven melody filled with emotion and melancholy. Unlike many breakup songs that rely on explosive emotional climaxes, this track chooses restraint, allowing its feelings to unfold quietly through atmosphere and tone.
What makes the song especially interesting is that it does not focus solely on sadness or pain. Instead, you can feel the emotional maturity of a man reflecting on love after heartbreak. Because of this, the song feels less like a dramatic breakup anthem and more like a poetic serenade dedicated to a past love.

Upon release, the song dominated Korean music charts and even stayed at No.1 on karaoke charts for an incredible eleven consecutive weeks. Its popularity became so overwhelming that people jokingly nicknamed it “Zombie, Nose, Lips,” comparing its chart longevity to a zombie that simply would not disappear.
Today, “Eyes, Nose, Lips” is remembered not only as a heartbreaking breakup song, but also as a deeply emotional serenade for someone you truly love.
And perhaps the reason this song continues to resonate with so many people is simple — you can genuinely feel Taeyang’s sincerity in every single line.
